Kelly & Kevin's Portsmouth & Great Island Common New Hampshire Engagement Portraits

With less than a day to go before Kelly & Kevin get married (YIKES!), I wanted to take a look back at their engagement portraits we took in October 2014. We planned their session to coincide with the foliage and Mother Nature awarded up for a gorgeous day for exploring downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Kelly & Kevin are lucky enough to call the area home, so they wanted to be sure that their engagement photos represented that aspect of their life together. From visiting Prescott Park with a super adorable picnic basket and blanket to the steeple of the North Church, we certainly captured what makes Portsmouth so awesome (and made me question why I don't spend more time there myself!). With the city covered, we took off to Great Island Common in New Castle, New Hampshire, in search of foliage and the amazing coastline. We certainly hit it out of the park with both! Watching the sunset behind the trees made for the most gorgeous light ever. Add in the ocean breeze to blow Kelly's hair around a bit and it was the perfect way to wrap up the day.

I cannot believe how fast the past year has flown by since you first contacted me, Kelly & Kevin. I am so excited to see you both on Saturday!

Sara & Jason's Two Lights State Park & Kettle Cove Engagement Portraits in Cape Elizabeth, Maine

Funny. Warm hearted. Youthful. Meant to be.

Those are the first things that come to mind when I think of Sara & Jason, who will be getting hitched tomorrow

It seems like just yesterday I first met them for their engagement portraits at Two Lights State Park in Cape Elizabeth. Planning "from away", as many of my couples do, often means that our relationship before their engagement session is through video chats, phone calls, and emails. Meeting Sara & Jason for the first time was instantly natural. Seeing them together was being able to see what was meant to be. Their collective love of life, ability to find humor in everything, the way they make each other laugh... it's all just perfect. Tomorrow, when they tie the knot overlooking the ocean, they will be making that connect as official as it can be. And I can't wait to celebrate with them!

Here is a look back at their engagement portraits that we captured at the State Park and at Kettle Beach in Cape Elizabeth almost exactly one year ago. Congratulations, Sara & Jason! We can't wait to see you both tomorrow.

Mallery & Matt's Engagement Portraits at Two Lights State Park and Kettle Cove

It was a year ago today that I met Mallery & Matt at one of my favorite portrait spots in the greater Portland area: Two Lights State Park. Two Lights is awesome because it offers a wide variety of scenery all within one spot. As State Park Pass Holders, it is certainly one of our favorite ones to visit every year. It's so darn pretty! And, when you add in lovebirds like Mallery & Matt, you just can't go wrong! From Mallery's stunning eyes to the way Matt was stuck to her like a bee to honey... they were just so sweet together. We had a great time exploring the Park before going to Kettle Cove to catch the sunset on the beach. It was the perfect way to end the day.

Mallery & Matt, congratulations on your wedding this past May! I can't believe how fast the year has gone by. Keep basking in the newlywed glow!

Cairsten & James' Bug Light Engagement Session in South Portland, Maine

Here it is. The night before Cairsten & James tie the knot and get hitched! I instinctively thought back to their engagement session at Bug Light in South Portland, Maine, just shy of a year ago. I'll be honest. We started off with some good laughs just finding each other despite having met before! (Bug Light, just so you know, is not the one by the Southern Maine Community College Campus.) Then I finally got to meet their two exuberant dogs and, well, there was more laughter. Wrangling those two is certainly a workout!

Colin & Sara :: Springtime Engagement Session at O'Donal's Nursery

It's been over a year since Colin & Sara's engagement session at O'Donal's Nursery in Scarborough, Maine, but, with their wedding coming this weekend, it's about time for it to finally hit my blog. I remember the weekend of their engagement session like it was yesterday. We were anxiously looking at the weather that Mother Nature forecasted and lets just say that it wasn't favorable. Rain, rain, rain...

Fortunately, the actual weather that day turned in our favor with bright blue skies and boy was it warm. That didn't mean that Sara didn't rock her super cute pink Hunter rain boots though! We had such a great time wandering around O'Donal's Nursery on the Gorham town line in Scarborough. Colin's family has a long time connection to the Nursery and I love it when the location holds a deeper meaning for my couples.

Here is a look back at their engagement session from May 2014. Alan and I cannot wait to celebrate with them tomorrow as they tie the knot at Damariscotta River Association's Round Top Barn! Be sure to check back to see photos from the day. It's sure to be amazing!

Kristan & Greg :: Old Port Engagement Portraits in Portland, Maine

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Kristan & Greg in Portland's Old Port for their engagement session. They'll be kicking off my 2016 wedding season and were the first to book me for next year. Needless to say, these two have their A-game on! Combine that with Kristan being childhood friends with my 2012 bride, Jess, and I knew we'd hit it off and have a blast. And I was so right. With love lock in hand, we put their lock on the fence along Portland's waterfront. But, instead of tossing the key into the harbor (poor fishies!), they opted for the nearest trash bin to keep the harbor cleaner (love it!). And then I learned of how Greg took Kristan to Street & Co. for their first date, which set the bar pretty high for all future dates. When I took them down allies or had they smooching tons in an elevator, they were game with no questions asked. Then, to seal the deal, I knew we were meant to be when we crossed paths after their session was over at my all time favorite gelato spot, Gorgeous Gelato. Alan and I are so excited to photograph their wedding in Portland in 2016! It's sure to be an awesome time.

Samantha's Bridal Shower at the Saltwater Grille in South Portland,Maine

When Samantha's mother contacted me about photographing Samantha's bridal shower as a surprise, I immediately jumped at the opportunity to see her again and to meet all of her gals. (I captured her engagement photos last year, with her husband to be Ryan, at Two Lights State Park and had an absolute blast with them. Check it out again by clicking here!) Add in the fact that the shower was held at the stunning, oceanside Saltwater Grille in South Portland, Maine, and I was giddy before I even got there!

Samantha's mother and maid of honor planned a really lovely bridal shower for Samantha with fun games, a mimosa bar, and lots of delicious food. One of my favorite moments included pin the ring on Samantha where her guests tried to place the ring on her finger on a canvas print of one of their engagement photos. It definitely resulted in lots of laughs! There were also Samantha Scattergories which included several laugh worth moments over sand, sailors, and sandals as everyone came up with words beginning with the letter "S" to fill in the blanks.

I am so excited to see all of these ladies again next month as Samantha & Ryan tie the knot!! Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Google + to see their wedding sneak peek as soon as I post it. In the meantime, here is a look back at the bridal shower. What an amazing day it was!

April & Dan :: Winter Engagement Portraits at Portland Headlight in Cape Elizabeth, Maine

With just over a week to go until this wedding, I've been saving this blog post for April & Dan just as life gets crazy with the finishing touches for their wedding in Portland, Maine. I'll be honest that one of Dan's good friends won the honors of photographing their wedding, but I got dibs on their winter engagement session with their two adorable pups, Willy & Bella. I'll take it!

I met up wit April and Dan back in February on one of the most gorgeous winter days ever. The crystal clear blue sky poured sunshine upon the snow covered grounds of Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. Although midday is normally not ideal for photography because of the lighting, the white snow acted as amazing reflector and bounced the light everywhere. Including up to these two lovebirds who first met five years ago at Sugarloaf Mountain. But, after hearing their story, I dare say that it was fate that brought them together as their fathers were friends before that faithful night.

Fast forward to our session date together at the always popular Fort Williams in Cape Elizabeth. The awesome thing about it in the winter is that there are far less tourists than during the summer! The less awesome? Navigating pathways that are unplowed turned... well... interesting for us all. I'm super thankful for my husband buying me tall winter boots so I was able to go off the beaten path and let the lovebirds stay where the snow was a bit firmer. We had a great time wandering around the park with Bella & Willy for a while before we put them back in the comfort of the car so we had some time pup free. What struck me most about the entire day was the way April turns gooey when she looks at Dan and how proud and happy Dan is to have April by his side. It may have taken them years for their paths to finally cross, but I dare say they are stuck together now.

April & Dan, thank you so much for allowing me to capture your engagement portraits for you! I had such a great day and am so happy that YOU are happy with all of the awesome photos we got together. Best of luck with the next week leading up to the big day! I'll be thinking of you both lots as I'm off at another wedding in Massachusetts!

Here is a peek of what April & Dan have from their session with me. There are lots more to see, so hopefully, if you know them personally, they've shared the password for their event on my website with you!

April & Dan :: Winter Engagement Portraits in Buxton, Maine

I love winter. I love fresh white snow, I love being able to bundle up to stay warm (as opposed to seeking AC to stay cool), and I love the light that often comes with the angle of the sun. Sign. Me. Up!

When April contacted me about her June wedding to Dan, the son of one of my former coworkers, and expressed interested in doing their engagement photos in the winter, I was obviously all over it! Choosing a location for your session, especially in the winter, can prove to be difficult. I love it when the location itself has special meaning to the couple so that the photos are more reflective of them. For April & Dan, it doesn't get much more meaningful than their home that they bought together last summer. Dan was a trooper and came waltzing out with shovel in hand, prepared to SHOVEL A PATH to anywhere on their property. Seriously, ladies, you can be jealous now. How many of you who have a man that would do that without being asked? I dare say he was raised right!

We tromped out to the middle of a clearing and April made the first move that told me their wedding was one to look forward to. Within 5 minutes of starting, she had pushed him in to the snow, totally not worried about the cold or snow that was going to cover them both. I could not stop laughing! Dan got her back later though, so they were even in the end.

Dan & April told me of their lengthy history together that started way back in high school where they first met. They told me of their first kiss on New Year's Eve heading in to 2012. April gushed over the amazing ring that Dan proposed to her with. (Seriously, it's amazing! I can't wait to take lots of photos of it on the wedding day!) With Dan working out of state for a month at a time, we talked about the challenges that come with that distance and the planning the April has been doing to create their dream wedding this summer. Needless to say, it was a great time hanging out together even with the snow up past my knees. At least it was warmer than it was on New Year's Eve for my last wedding! And, at the end of the session, they sent me on my way with a dozen eggs from their eighteen chickens. How awesome is that?!?

Alan and I are super excited for their wedding this summer and know that we'll have lots of laughs with April & Dan that day. This is just a sneak peek of the large number of photos that these love birds have coming their way. You can also check them out over on my Facebook page to see them in a larger format! Thank you, April & Dan, for choosing me. I can't wait for the big day!
