Kristan & Greg :: Old Port Engagement Portraits in Portland, Maine

Yesterday I had the great pleasure of meeting up with Kristan & Greg in Portland's Old Port for their engagement session. They'll be kicking off my 2016 wedding season and were the first to book me for next year. Needless to say, these two have their A-game on! Combine that with Kristan being childhood friends with my 2012 bride, Jess, and I knew we'd hit it off and have a blast. And I was so right. With love lock in hand, we put their lock on the fence along Portland's waterfront. But, instead of tossing the key into the harbor (poor fishies!), they opted for the nearest trash bin to keep the harbor cleaner (love it!). And then I learned of how Greg took Kristan to Street & Co. for their first date, which set the bar pretty high for all future dates. When I took them down allies or had they smooching tons in an elevator, they were game with no questions asked. Then, to seal the deal, I knew we were meant to be when we crossed paths after their session was over at my all time favorite gelato spot, Gorgeous Gelato. Alan and I are so excited to photograph their wedding in Portland in 2016! It's sure to be an awesome time.

Old Port Portland Maine Engagement Portraits

Catherine & Dan :: Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Portland's Ocean Gateway

I first met Catherine & Dan over a head in advance of their June 2013 wedding over a cup of coffee at my beloved Panera Bread. What struck me first was how genuine they both were and how they really seemed to be a matched set. Their demeanor complimented each other perfectly and I left really hoping that they would chose me to capture their wedding. Fortunately for me, it didn't take them long at all to make it official. Yipee!

Fast forward to this past weekend and all of their hard work and planning came to fruition at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, Maine, a gorgeous venue right on the ocean with an absolutely amazing view of both city and sea. Catherine started the day by getting ready with her lovely ladies at the nearby Residence Inn. They had a great room with tons of space for them all to hang out together and put on the finishing touches. We used the courtyard at the Inn for photos of Catherine & her family and ladies prior to the ceremony, which certainly made the timeline for the day go a lot smoother.

Once it was go time, we all headed over to the Ocean Gateway for their ceremony in the Moon Tide Garden, an absolutely gorgeous spot to start the next chapter of their lives together. The sun was glistening off the way, everyone was beaming huge smiles, and love was in the air. Even when Dan stumbled with his vows, partially due to nerves and partially due to the emotions of the day, we all could tell that he just deeply loved his almost wife. You could feel it.

After the celebratory champagne toasts alongside the ocean and the family photos had been taken, we scurried off to the Eastern Prom with the bridal party for some fun shots of them all together. The bridesmaids requested a jumping shot and I soon found out why. Those girls got game! They blame it on years of cheering and I say it paid off. Once the bridal party departed, Catherine & Dan and I wandered to the other side of the prom for photos of Back Bay and the city for some more variety. And then it was time to party!

Upon our arrival at the Ocean Gateway, the party started up super fast thanks to a notable toast from the Best Man that featured Dan's "Coke" from a party he attended years ago. It sure got lots of laughs! It counterbalanced the tears from Catherine's sisters' toast quite nicely. After a delicious buffet from Lake Region Caterers, it was time to fill the dance floor with tunes played by Don Corman and dance the night away with the sparkling city skyline as the backdrop to the ending of their perfect day.

I am SO lucky to have been there to capture Catherine & Dan's day for them and am so excited that I'll get to see them again as their friends tie the knot later this year. Thank you for letting me play a role, Catherine & Dan. I hope that you are both enjoying summer and the newlywed glow that you are now basking in.

Here is a sneak peek from what I captured during the big day. You can see even more of their sneak peek over on my Facebook page (make sure you hit "like" while you are there!). AND... you can find all of their images from the day in their gallery on my website already and order prints of your favorite shots. You will need a password from the Bride & Groom to see them all though, so hopefully you are on their "cool kids" list!

Amanda & Justin :: Maternity Portraits in the Old Port in Portland, Maine

I have been photographing Amanda & Justin since their marriage was just beginning. For those of you who have been "with me" for a while or have heard my tales, they are the triple rainbow couple I often talk about when the dreaded topic of weather comes up (moral of the story is that even rain showers can be amazing, especially at the gorgeous Mountain View Grand where they tied the knot in 2010). Their trash the dress session we did later that fall was also one that I will never forget as we searched Portland, Maine, for fall foliage and wound up lying in leaves with the pup in the middle of Evergreen Cemetary (which was later featured as Real Maine Wedding's Pup of the Week). Needless to say, when they ask "Can you take pictures of..." I immediately leap up and down screaming "YES!". This time was especially touching for me as I learned that they were expecting their first (non-furry-four-legged) baby! To say I was excited is such an understatement!

We decided to capture a few portraits at their home before we moved on to the Old Port area of Portland, Maine, to capture this special time in their lives as they awaited the arrival of baby girl, Piper. The city has become their home in the past couple years and will always hold a special place in their hearts (even as they are about to take off for another city this summer). It was only appropriate to use it as the setting. Amanda is exactly what you would see if you were to look up "absolutely adorable glowing pregnant mommy to be" in the encyclopedia. She looked down right amazing! And, just as he always has been whenever he looks at her, Justin was just beaming love with every glance or mention of his wife's name. He is one proud, and very excited, daddy to be!

The weather was downright perfect for our stroll and we all enjoyed getting a bit of fresh air. Spending time with these two is like catching up with old friends for me, especially now that I have my own baby girl to chat about. We talked about everything in between snaps from my favorite (and absolutely grossest) favorite baby "tool" to just how awesome a baby makes life in general and even how my husband and I have managed to still have time for us even with our (not so little) bundle of joy. These two are why I love doing this. I love being a part of my clients lives and being there to capture their memories as they move through their lives together.

Here is a sneak peek of what I captured of Amanda & Justin during their maternity session. Baby Piper has since been welcomed in to the world and I'll be meeting her shortly. So be sure to check back later for a peek at the cutie pie!

Kathryn & Nicholas :: Wedding at St. Albans and Reception at the Seasons in Portland, Maine

By the time the wedding came, Kathryn & Nick felt like old friends to me and not just clients. These two high school sweethearts found their way to me two years in advance of their wedding day thanks to Kathryn's brother, who I had in a college photography class I taught. The venue hadn't been decided on. The details were far from finalized. But they knew that I was their photographer. A year after booking me, we got together for their engagement session during an unseasonably warm fall day in 2011. We were all dressed for fall weather and mother nature had other plans. It was down right hot! The highlight of our time together that day, for me, was getting to meet their (furry) "baby", Auto, who is about the size of a house. He's a huge lovebug! Throwing a stick for him meant chucking a log. He was hilarious!

And so, when the big day arrived, I was struck by how it felt like such an end of an era to me. After all of the years of planning, the shot lists, the details... it all came down to this one day. And then it would flash by before we knew it. They always say that. I always say that to my couples.

The day started with the ladies primping in their room at the Howard Johnson in Portland, Maine. The weather was gorgeous with the sun shining brightly. The forecast had been for rain, so it was a welcomed change (not that we weren't crossing our fingers anyways). The bridesmaids' dresses reminded me of Greek goddesses with their gorgeous chocolate brown color with just a hint of sparkling gold. Kathryn's sister/matron of honor, looked especially fitted for the part with her long, curled dark hair. To say they were all stunning is such an understatement.

The ceremony itself was held at the always amazing St. Albans Episcopal Church in Cape Elizabeth. I had driven past it on several occasions, but had never had the opportunity to visit. It is such a gorgeous spot! Kathryn & Nick's family and friends filled the church as the couple started this new chapter of their life together. Nick, upon seeing his bride walking down the aisle, got teary eyed, which almost made me follow suit. This day that they had been waiting for for so long was finally here and happening. Love, love, love.

Following the ceremony, the bridal party as well as the newlywed's families scurried down to Fort Williams for portraits. From the look of the sky and the smell of the air, I knew our finger crossing wasn't going to last much longer. Mother nature had other plans. And she made them quite clear shortly after we managed to capture shots of the happy couple as well as them with their families. A made dash back to our vehicles was in order!

We concluded our portraits back in the lobby of the Howard Johnson as their guests enjoyed cocktail hour at the Seasons Event and Conference Center. Upon wrapping it up, it was time to get the party started! There were toasts by family and friends. My favorite of the night, and by far one of the most memorable ever, was given by Kathryn's sister, who gave her blessing to Nick marrying her sister knowing that he would take as good care of her as she would. There were also some choice insider jokes exchanged, which led to many, many laughs.  The remainder of the night was spent celebrating and dancing to the music played by local band Higher Ground. I dare say that Kathryn & Nick could not have asked for a better way to start the next chapter of their life together. The only downside now that the day is over is just what will encompass all of their new found time now that wedding planning is done. With Kathryn's sister being married last year and now Kathryn, I'm not quite sure what their family will do. But we're all hoping that baby shower planning time isn't too far away....

Kathryn & Nick, thank you for letting me be a part of your day and of the past two years of your life together. I am so incredibly honored! I hope that you had as fabulous a time on your honeymoon as your pictures seem to show and that your "baby" wasn't too mad at you when you got home. Give him a snuggle for me! And definitely keep in touch.

Meghan & Shane :: Wedding & Reception at DiMillo's in the Old Port of Portland, Maine

I first met Meghan & Shane in October of last year to chat about their wedding. What struck me the most about them right from the start was how genuine they were and just how well matched they are for each other. Ok, and maybe Shane's smile did, too. We followed up our cup of coffee with a chilly engagement session in Limington, Maine that surprisingly did not result in icicles at the end of our noses. Flash forward to August 25th and the chill was replaced with the most perfect summer weather that they could have asked for.

Meghan got ready with her ladies at the Holiday Inn by the Bay in Portland with an absolutely amazing view of the Old Port. Between the hair spray from all of the up-dos and the bubbly in the mimosas, there were more than enough laughs and smiles going around. Once the primping had concluded and Meghan was in to her stunning gown, it was game time! They held their ceremony and reception at the most quintessential Maine restaurant, DiMillo's, right on the waterfront in the Old Port. The majority of the guests were traveling in to town to celebrate with the lovebirds and they wanted to make it a true Maine destination party for them. And I dare say they got their wish! From the seashell themed centerpieces and amazingly yummy cake from The European Bakery to the stunning view of the waterfront... the entire day was very "Maine".

Congratulations, Meghan & Shane, and thank you so very much for letting me be a part of your day!

Michelle & Brian :: Wedding at the Eastland Park Hotel in Portland, Maine

Michelle and Brian.... the wedding that wrapped up a chapter for me. I first met Michelle and Brian last year when she was a bridesmaid at Jodie and DJ's wedding. And then when Jen and Josh tied the knot shortly thereafter. Needless to say, we were great friends by the time the planning started for their own wedding! "My girls", as I started lovingly calling these three ladies, have been a cornerstone to my wedding season for a while. Finally having the trilogy all married has been an absolutely amazing trip. But enough about me!

Michelle and Brian got ready at the elegant Eastland Park Hotel in Portland with all of their bridal party and family. Michelle and her ladies were primped by the super talented L'Salotta Salon while the guys were off golfing their hearts out. The super crew from Lasting Memories Videotaping captured the entire day from start to amazing finish.

After the finishing touches had been applied, it was off to the always incredible Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for the ceremony! I know I've said it before, but the Cathedral really does take my breath away every time I'm there. In fact, Michelle and Brian booked the Cathedral sight unseen and told me during a get together this summer that they were tying the knot there. After jumping up and down, I showed them what it looked like for the other amazing weddings I have been honored to capture there and they knew they had made the right choice. It truly is stunning!

Following the ceremony, the entire wedding party hopped in to a limo bus from Maine Limousine Service and headed for the Eastern Prom from the gorgeous "Maine" background of the harbor filled with boats and the islands in the distance. From there, it was time to get the party started back at the Eastland Park Hotel. It truly is hard to chose a favorite moment. Brian's very proud mom getting teary eyed during her dance with her son. Or maybe it was the Eastland Park Signature Flambé presentation from the talented waitstaff at the Hotel. Perhaps it was when Northeast DJs called out other couples, preselected by Michelle and Brian, to kiss each other when the glasses were clinked. But then there was the very last song of the night, Get Low by Lil' Jon. From start to finish, the entire day was filled with memories that I know no one will forget any time soon. I know that I won't!

Michelle and Brian, thank you for letting Alan and I be a part of your day. We are so incredibly honored! And we can't wait to see what the next chapter has in store for you!

Abbey & Matthew :: Wedding in Portland, Maine

Abbey and Matthew were hitched on a gorgeous, late September day in Portland, Maine. You might remember these two cuties from their engagement session earlier this summer. Needless to say, it was a picture perfect day for these two love birds as they became husband and wife at the always incredible Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. I am so in love with the Cathedral that it takes my breath away every time I step foot inside. And understandably so! It is absolutely amazing.

Abbey wore a stunning, classically style gown from Andrea's Bridal Shop while Matthew was looking super dapper in his black suit. The amazing bouquets and floral arrangements were brought in by the newlywed's family all the way from New York state in a very well air conditioned car (thank goodness the driver didn't freeze!) and were the absolute perfect compliment to their day.

After the Mass has concluded and the couple sealed their vowed with their first newlywed kiss, we made our way to East End Beach as well as the Maine State Pier for portraits before arriving at Ri-Ra on Commercial Street for their reception. After the delicious meal was served, Abbey and Matthew cut the stunning, dark chocolate frosted cake, which was crafted by Cake Extraordinaire. Next up came a very full dance floor as the party really got started!

Congratulations to Abbey, Matthew, and their entire amazing family! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special memories!

Amanda & Justin :: Trash the Dress in Portland, Maine

I could have entitled this post so many different things. "Hunting for Fall Foliage." Or perhaps "Peanut is the Cutest Dog Ever and I Want to Steal Her." Or maybe just "Someday These Two Stunning People Will Have Cute Babies." No matter what, it was an awesome day. You might remember Amanda & Justin from their gorgeous wedding at the Mountain View Grand this summer. It was the one with three rainbows. When they were deciding on a date, they wanted the fall foliage but without the cold temperatures in the mountains. Frankly, that combination doesn't happen around here with a guarantee. So they opted to have a September wedding instead with a "Trash the Dress" portrait session once the foliage was in full kick. Although we didn't actually trash Amanda's gorgeous dress, we did manage to find the perfect foliage after a lot of hunting. And we also were able to incorporate cute lil' Peanut in to some of the shots for the family pictures we couldn't get without her at the wedding. She's was such a cutie and so much fun to hang out with during the session. Thank you, Amanda & Justin, for letting me capture your memories. May you have many, many years of happiness. You two are so awesome.

P.S. I'll "babysit" Peanut anytime you want. :-)

Amanda & Michael :: Engagement Session at East End Beach in Portland, Maine

I am blessed with incredible clients. I just have to say that outright. Amanda & Michael are awesome. They traveled home to Maine from the midwest back in October so we could get together for some engagement photos (and so they could do some more wedding planning). I won't lie. It was cold! We met right at East End Beach in Portland and I was wearing a down jacket. But these two are die hards. Perhaps its the fact that they are from one of those states that already has snow on the ground. If I had to guess though, I'd say their love kept them warm. They were just so cute all day long. I can't wait until their big day next Summer!

Nicole & Adam :: Wedding at SMCC in South Portland and Reception at Brian Boru Public House in Portland

Nicole and Adam were married on August 29 at the bunker on the Southern Maine Community College campus in South Portland, Maine, before being wisked away to a fun reception at the Brian Boru Public House in Portland. From the absolutely gorgeous calla lily flowers to their daughter's cute dress, the saxophone playing at their ceremony to the regge music at their reception, everything was absolutely perfect.

Here is a sneak peek of some of what is to come for the Newlyweds. If you'd like to see more, please visit my Facebook page. Don't forget to "like" the page while you are there!

Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your wedding, Nicole and Adam. You are an amazing pair and your daughter is so lucky to have you as her parents.

Nicole & J Wesley: MARRIED!

On April 24, 2010, I was honored to capture the absolutely gorgeous marriage of Nicole & J Wesley who traveled to Nicole's home state of Florida to tie the knot in Portland, Maine. Unlike the weather we had this month a year ago, the day was stunningly perfect and just the right temperature.

The ceremony was conducted by the bride's cousin and was held at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland. The Cathedral was so amazing! Everything about the ceremony definitely reflected Nicole & J Wesley's deep love for each other.

In traditional Navy fashion, the newly hitched Nicole & J Wesley had to pass through the sword arch to make it official.

After the ceremony, we went out to the Eastern Prom on Munjoy Hill to take in the gorgeous view.

The reception was held at the Ocean Gateway, right on the waterfront in the Old Port. The entire day went off without a hitch. Even the fire alarm couldn't stop the newlyweds from enjoying every minute of it. We took advantage of it!

Nicole's rings were absolutely stunning, but it wasn't until I learned of the story of the two previous generations that it had blessed that it took my breath away. J Wesley's grandmother and mother both were married with the same engagement ring!

Congratulations to Nicole & J Wesley and thank you so much for letting me be a part of your incredible day. You are such a fun couple and it was very obvious how much you are meant to be together.

Hilarie + Joe

I'm working on wrapping up several weddings from earlier this season, but I couldn't help but share this brief sneak peek of Hilarie and Joe from their Halloween wedding this past Saturday. It was an amazing day and definitely my absolute favorite Halloween from my entire life. So much fun! Congratulations, Hilarie and Joe!

There is much more to come, so check back for a slideshow of more photos later.

Lindsey & Jay's Wedding

On August 22, Lindsey and Jay started a brand new chapter of their life together as they walked down the aisle at the State Street Church in Portland, Maine. Hurricane Bill managed to stay far enough out to sea that we were blessed with gorgeous, although humid, weather that complimented their wedding perfectly. The bride and groom even surprised their wedding party with a fire truck ride around the city for their portraits before the reception. It was the perfect day for the perfect couple. Congratulations, Newlyweds! May your marriage be as beautiful as the day that it started.
