Keeley & Dan reached out to me to photograph their own nuptials over a year in advance of their wedding date. Having worked with me already, it didn’t take long for them to officially crown me their wedding photographer. I love it when that happens! They were planning a backyard soirée at Keeley’s childhood home with their closest family and friends there to celebrate. In fact, the tent was actually set up where Keeley & Amber’s swing set was set up many years ago. I am sure that the weekend was a bit surreal to their parents as the lawn was taken over with lawn games, cocktail tables, an aisle, and a large white tent.Read More
Many months ago, Emily and I met each other through video chat with her newborn son chiming in when he felt necessary while I thought about how long it had been since my daughter was his size. Bonding over the chaos of motherhood, we talked about her & Joven's plans for their destination wedding here in Maine during Maine's peak foliage. I was left in awe of their teamwork as they planned their wedding from the other side of the country (with help from Cassie of Doting & Details). Tackling wedding planning with a newborn at home? They did so with style and their wedding day itself was more perfect than I could ever say. Now, they might have wished for slightly warmer temperatures and a bit more bright fall colors on the trees, but at least it did not rain!Read More
The journey that led Lindsey & Ryan to Saturday, August 12th, may have been long, twisty, and sometimes uncertain. Yet I dare say that the trip was meant to be and well worth it for both of them. From when they first contacted me back in January, there was something about their story that resonated with me. Add in vision for a wedding ceremony held beneath the tall trees at the adorable Little River Flower Farm and I just knew that I had to capture their long awaited union.Read More
My relationship with April & Dan has been growing for some time since they first came to me for their snowy engagement pictures. I remember that day as if it was yesterday: snow up past my knees, their outfits themed to go along with their wedding colors, and more laughter than I could sufficiently describe in words. Since then, I'd been blessed to capture their wedding, maternity portraits announcing their first pregnancy, and then their first son's portraits. When they decided to expand their family again, I swear I was one of the first ones to know. It was with that deep bond that I have been anxiously checking my phone for the past few weeks waiting to hear of Rowan's arrival. That message came shortly after he came into this world and I have been giddy with excitement for the past week waiting to meet him (and to see his brother again).
This morning I arrived at their home to welcome their newest arrival. James has become such a handsome little man since I first photographed him almost a year ago. And there, in a bundle, was his new little brother, Rowan. He was fast asleep without a care in the world. Seeing April & Dan in their early days as parents of two young boys brought a smile to my face. The entire time I was there, it was so very clear to me just how perfectly suited their are for each other and for this crazy life as parents to two young ones. They tackled every moment as a team. From using the dog dish as a splash table to hiccup induced messes to climbing on top of the toys... they were the most calm, cool, and collected parents I think I have ever seen. Being parents... this is what they were meant to be. And they were meant to do it together.
April & Dan, thank you so much for letting me into your life to capture so much of your story together. It makes me happier than I could ever tell you to see how you both have evolved over the years. James & Rowan are very lucky to have you both.
Here is a sneak peek at what I have in store for them in the days to come.
I know what you're thinking. "THANK GOODNESS IT'S FRIDAY!"
And, if you've been paying attention, you know that I celebrate the end of the work week with one of my furry friends. This time, my favorite little friend is none other than Jaclyn & Jake's furry kiddo. One of the awesome parts of having your wedding at The Barn at Flanagan Farm is having the farmhouse to get ready in with your friends and family. And furbabies! Jaclyn & Jake always have their pups by their side so it was a given that they be there as they tied the knot.
Don't you just want to go over there and given them a belly rub and head scratch?
I'll come right out and say it. I love my clients. I love being a part of their lives and seeing them as they reach new milestones. I love to tell their stories.
And this past week was the start of one of my favorite chapters. I have known April & Dan for quite some time now. I captured their engagement portraits, then their wedding in 2014, followed by their maternity portraits last winter. This week, I photographed them together with their sweet baby boy. April & Dan are now parents! Seeing them over the past few years and watching them come to this point in time has been such a blessing. Being with them on Tuesday while I met baby James... this, my friends, is what they are meant to be. They are meant to be parents. And meant to be parents for sweet little James. You can just tell that they have been waiting their whole lives for this chapter. They are so patient, loving, kind, and communicative with each other. And oh my how they dote on little James.
I don't blame them! He is so perfectly adorable in every way. He has his mommy's eyes. The way he looks at his daddy is enough to make anyone melt. James even has the most incredible little dimples. I really could cuddle him all day long. Even when he cries.
April & Dan, I cannot even begin to tell you how much it means to me to capture your life story. Thank you so much for letting me cuddle your baby boy. He is one lucky little man to have the two of you to call his mum & dad. <3
"I can't say enough nice things about Susie and how prepared she is for anything. She captured every special moment and even created some that we didn't think of. My family and I highly suggest Susie, she is the best photographer."Read More
Congratulations, April & Dan! I cannot wait to hear that he's arrived so I can snuggle and cuddle him. And take pictures of him, too, of course. He's one lucky little boy!
In the last eighteen months, I have been very fortunate to see the evolution of April & Dan from engagement to wedding to getting ready to welcome their little one this summer. Getting together with them to capture such important milestones is not a client/photographer situation. We have grown to become friends over that span of time. Seeing April glowing like she was on Friday... it just warms my heart so much. And then Dan's face as he talks about being a dad? Wow. I am so very lucky to capture these moments for them.
I am preparing their full sneak peek, and getting ready to share if they are having a boy or a girl (no pressure!), but I wanted to share one of my favorite shots from their session. So stay tuned, my loves. I have much bigger surprises up my sleeves for you this evening when I make their big reveal!
I love winter. I love fresh white snow, I love being able to bundle up to stay warm (as opposed to seeking AC to stay cool), and I love the light that often comes with the angle of the sun. Sign. Me. Up!
When April contacted me about her June wedding to Dan, the son of one of my former coworkers, and expressed interested in doing their engagement photos in the winter, I was obviously all over it! Choosing a location for your session, especially in the winter, can prove to be difficult. I love it when the location itself has special meaning to the couple so that the photos are more reflective of them. For April & Dan, it doesn't get much more meaningful than their home that they bought together last summer. Dan was a trooper and came waltzing out with shovel in hand, prepared to SHOVEL A PATH to anywhere on their property. Seriously, ladies, you can be jealous now. How many of you who have a man that would do that without being asked? I dare say he was raised right!
We tromped out to the middle of a clearing and April made the first move that told me their wedding was one to look forward to. Within 5 minutes of starting, she had pushed him in to the snow, totally not worried about the cold or snow that was going to cover them both. I could not stop laughing! Dan got her back later though, so they were even in the end.
Dan & April told me of their lengthy history together that started way back in high school where they first met. They told me of their first kiss on New Year's Eve heading in to 2012. April gushed over the amazing ring that Dan proposed to her with. (Seriously, it's amazing! I can't wait to take lots of photos of it on the wedding day!) With Dan working out of state for a month at a time, we talked about the challenges that come with that distance and the planning the April has been doing to create their dream wedding this summer. Needless to say, it was a great time hanging out together even with the snow up past my knees. At least it was warmer than it was on New Year's Eve for my last wedding! And, at the end of the session, they sent me on my way with a dozen eggs from their eighteen chickens. How awesome is that?!?
Alan and I are super excited for their wedding this summer and know that we'll have lots of laughs with April & Dan that day. This is just a sneak peek of the large number of photos that these love birds have coming their way. You can also check them out over on my Facebook page to see them in a larger format! Thank you, April & Dan, for choosing me. I can't wait for the big day!
