Erica & Mike's Our Lady of the Snows Wedding in Bethel and Ski Esta Reception in Newry, Maine

When I think about all of the wedding venues I have been fortunate enough to work at over the years, Ski Esta in Newry, Maine, is definitely towards the top of my list. Needless to say, when Erica contacted me in April of 2014 about her wedding plans with Mike for at Ski Esta, I was practically jumping out of my chair with excitement while shouting "PICK ME! PICK ME!" at my computer. Getting to know them both as we chatted about their plans and captured their engagement portraits in Perkins Cove in Ogunquit, Maine, later that summer only made me look forward to their wedding day even more.

Fast forward to September 19th. Their wedding day.

If you could order up weather for your wedding day, I don't think it could have been much more perfect. The sky was amazingly blue with very few light, fluffy white clouds. The temperature might have been a smidge on the warm side, but I dare say they'd take that over the rain we've been having here in Maine today. The view from the deck of Ski Esta as they both prepared for their wedding day festivities was breathtaking. It really was, at the risk of sounding cliche, a picture perfect day.

Erica & Mike were married at the nearby Our Lady of the Snows in Bethel surrounded by all of their family and close friends. The anticipation mounted as their personal ceremony, conducted by Deacon Dennis Popadak, was carried out. Being pronounced and sealing their union with a kiss led to instant smiles and cheers from everyone in the sanctuary.

Following their ceremony, the newlyweds began to celebrate at Ski Esta with plenty of amazing food & beverage from the Good Food Store. As the sunset on their first day as husband & wife, Alex from Sirois Sound Production got the dance floor hoping with just about everyone in attendance getting out there. It's a good thing Ski Esta's dance floor is so expansive! The party lasted well into the night long after the sun set and the stars took over the sky. It was a beautiful day to start the next chapter of their life together.

Erica & Mike, thank you so much for having us play a role in your day and capture your story. We are truly honored!

Nikki & Brad's Portland Headlight and Mariner's Church Banquet Center, Portland, Maine Wedding

If I had to say that one couple would get a whirlwind portrait prize, I dare say Nikki & Brad would win. They were married on a perfectly overcast day in September on the field by Portland Headlight. With what felt like the whole world watching, they proclaimed their love for each other. It made me giggle hearing the crowds of people as they were anxiously awaiting the bride. "Is she out of the limo yet?" "Where is she walking down?" "Are they bringing her down on a golf cart?" And then hearing the gasps as everyone saw Nikki for the first time. She really was gasp worthy, too. The subtle pink shading in the flowers on her dress were perfectly complimented by the gorgeous sash and super hot shoes. Her tiara added just the right amount of sparkle to her gorgeous bridal updo.

Once they were pronounced and the formal portraits were done, away we went on our whirlwind portraits of the two of them. I don't think I've ever been able to hit such a wide variety of portrait spots with a couple! From the pond and gazebo on the Fort Williams grounds to the gorgeous cobblestone streets of the Old Port to the boat dotted shoreline of Portland (just don't look left or right or you'd notice that the location we were in was not, in and of itself, very picturesque)... we hit them all! Once their shoes were changed and bandaids applied, it was off we went to party with their closest friends and family at the awesome Mariner's Church Banquet Center. From the classics (YMCA and We are Family) to the latest hits, this crowd kept the party going long in to the night! It was such a blast!

Nikki & Brad (and family), thank you for letting me be there for your awesome day! I had such a great time celebrating with all of you. You both are marrying in to awesome families!

Megan & Ian's Wedding & Reception on the Ocean in Phippsburg, Maine

Often times, by their wedding day, I already feel like my couples aren't my clients. They really are like long time friends. For Megan & Ian, who booked me over a year in advance for the big day, it turned in to a family affair when we did their engagement session and they got to meet my baby girl, Bri, and my husband, Alan. They even decided to book a second photographer/assistant to make sure every aspect of their day was covered. My go to person? My husband. I love shooting weddings with him!

Arriving at Megan's family camp on the morning of was like a reunion with good friends we hadn't seen in a while: excitedly chatting about their new home, sharing stories of Bri's latest adventures... ahhh... love, love, love! Add on to all of that the absolutely gorgeous view, perfect weather, fluffy white clouds. It was an absolutely amazing day before it even started. Oh, and can I mention that Ian is British? Yes, complete with the accent. Love him!

It is so hard to describe their entire day in words at this point, not because it was in August, but because it was one fast blur of awesome. Their flowers from Marianmade Farm still make me swoon. The munchkins running around, or being soothed by the "baby whisperers", still makes me giggle. Working with my favorite DJ, Jim, from Premier Entertainment always means that I'll have a blast. The view... oh, the view! To look out on that bay every day would be heaven. The tears shed as the vows were said and the toasts given. Watching the sun set, and the moon rise, over the water with the stars sparkling up above. And the way that Ian looked at Megan all the time with that look that tells you that he knows how lucky he is to have her (and she to have him). It was all just incredible. It was certainly one of those days when calling this a job just feels wrong.

Although the newlyweds have long ago received their images from me, I wanted to be sure to share a sneak peek from their day for those of you who weren't blessed enough to be there. Megan & Ian, I think of you often and we are still very honored that you chose us to be there with you for your wedding. Love you guys!

Catherine & Dan :: Wedding Ceremony & Reception at Portland's Ocean Gateway

I first met Catherine & Dan over a head in advance of their June 2013 wedding over a cup of coffee at my beloved Panera Bread. What struck me first was how genuine they both were and how they really seemed to be a matched set. Their demeanor complimented each other perfectly and I left really hoping that they would chose me to capture their wedding. Fortunately for me, it didn't take them long at all to make it official. Yipee!

Fast forward to this past weekend and all of their hard work and planning came to fruition at the Ocean Gateway in Portland, Maine, a gorgeous venue right on the ocean with an absolutely amazing view of both city and sea. Catherine started the day by getting ready with her lovely ladies at the nearby Residence Inn. They had a great room with tons of space for them all to hang out together and put on the finishing touches. We used the courtyard at the Inn for photos of Catherine & her family and ladies prior to the ceremony, which certainly made the timeline for the day go a lot smoother.

Once it was go time, we all headed over to the Ocean Gateway for their ceremony in the Moon Tide Garden, an absolutely gorgeous spot to start the next chapter of their lives together. The sun was glistening off the way, everyone was beaming huge smiles, and love was in the air. Even when Dan stumbled with his vows, partially due to nerves and partially due to the emotions of the day, we all could tell that he just deeply loved his almost wife. You could feel it.

After the celebratory champagne toasts alongside the ocean and the family photos had been taken, we scurried off to the Eastern Prom with the bridal party for some fun shots of them all together. The bridesmaids requested a jumping shot and I soon found out why. Those girls got game! They blame it on years of cheering and I say it paid off. Once the bridal party departed, Catherine & Dan and I wandered to the other side of the prom for photos of Back Bay and the city for some more variety. And then it was time to party!

Upon our arrival at the Ocean Gateway, the party started up super fast thanks to a notable toast from the Best Man that featured Dan's "Coke" from a party he attended years ago. It sure got lots of laughs! It counterbalanced the tears from Catherine's sisters' toast quite nicely. After a delicious buffet from Lake Region Caterers, it was time to fill the dance floor with tunes played by Don Corman and dance the night away with the sparkling city skyline as the backdrop to the ending of their perfect day.

I am SO lucky to have been there to capture Catherine & Dan's day for them and am so excited that I'll get to see them again as their friends tie the knot later this year. Thank you for letting me play a role, Catherine & Dan. I hope that you are both enjoying summer and the newlywed glow that you are now basking in.

Here is a sneak peek from what I captured during the big day. You can see even more of their sneak peek over on my Facebook page (make sure you hit "like" while you are there!). AND... you can find all of their images from the day in their gallery on my website already and order prints of your favorite shots. You will need a password from the Bride & Groom to see them all though, so hopefully you are on their "cool kids" list!
