Jacqueline & Josh :: Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Wedding & Ocean Gateway Reception in Portland, Maine

Every year there is a date that is just so incredibly popular that it feels like everyone that contacts me is looking for the same one. This year, it was July 13th. I had seven(!!) couples contact me. I always give the first couple to contact me the opportunity to book me first and, fortunately for Jacqueline & Josh, that meant them! They first got in touch with me just over a year prior as they were planning their wedding from "away". I met Jacqueline and her mom and sister to chat about their shared vision for the day and how I could help them capture it all. Knowing that they had chosen by all time favorite church (The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception) and one of my top wedding venues (the waterfront Ocean Gateway), I was secretively praying that they would like me, I mean REALLY like me, and book me for the big day. My wishes came true in August when they made it official!

Fast forward to last weekend. Normally you think of July. In Maine. And those of us "locals" envision it being so hot that we spend every second we can in a lake or the ocean. But not July 13th. It was the most picturesque wedding day I think I have ever had. There were high, puffy white clouds in the sky to diffuse the sun just enough to not have harsh shadows. There was a cooling ocean breeze in downtown Portland. It was perfect.

Jacqueline got ready at her mother's condo on the north side of Portland with all of her lovely ladies. I had been anxiously waiting to see her dress for the past year since I heard she had made the trip to NYC's Kleinfelds. It did not disappoint! I loved the lace, the corset back, and the fact that it wasn't strapless. (If I had to do my wedding over, I'd seriously reconsider my choice of strapless.) It was gorgeous! And her ladies were dressed in perfect, short purple dresses each chosen to match their own taste and style. Love it! (I'm sorry to my ladies for not doing the same.) To add the cherry on top, Jacqueline made her own broach bouquet, which is definitely my all time favorite at this point. It was incredible and definitely worth all the time I know she put in to it. Once the ladies were all dressed and the details had been finished, it was off to the Cathedral for the formal Catholic Mass wedding ceremony, which was made extra special since Jacqueline's Great Uncle performed it. I love when family is so involved in the big day!

After doing the formal portraits in the Cathedral, we all loaded on to the party bus and cruised around the Old Port while taking more portraits of their newlyweds with their bridal party. Jacqueline & Josh made sure to schedule plenty of time for their portraits and allotted me almost two hours! That certainly was a record in my books and was SO amazing! We got tons of pictures of them with their friends but, more importantly, some of my all time favorite portraits of just the two of them. Seriously, it was awesome! They planned for their reception to start a bit after the ceremony to give their guests time to enjoy the Old Port a bit before partying and it worked out so well. Brides & Grooms, take note! If you want tons of awesome portraits, make sure you give yourself time in your day to make it happen.

Following our trip around Portland, it was time to get the party started at the Ocean Gateway! The toasts by Jacqueline's sister and Josh's brother were funny and heartfelt (with a few tears shed for good measure). The Ohio clan rocked it out early screaming O-H-I-O at the top of their lungs during their theme song (it was hilarious)! Jacqueline & Josh's siblings swarmed the dance floor all night and definitely kept the party going for a long time. Lake Region Caterers made sure everyone had the delicious fuel they needed to keep dancing. They always do such a great job!

Jacqueline & Josh, I hope that you are both enjoying your honeymoon in wine country on the West Coast! Thank you so much for letting me play a roll in your perfect day. It was such an honor. Congratulations!

Kim & Philip :: Engagement Photos at Willard Beach in South Portland, Maine

Kim & Philip... where do I even start? I first started chatting with these two (ok, so it was really just Kim) back in June for their May 2013 wedding in Cape Elizabeth. What struck me first was their amazing sense of humor and the way they both just glow when looking at or talking about each other. Love... that's what love looks like.

To capture just that, we got together at Willard Beach in South Portland last weekend to capture their engagement photos. For Kim & Philip, Willard Beach is where it all started. They actually met there in person for the first time after exchanging emails and phone calls back and forth for some time. It was amazing to be able to capture them together in such an important place to them. Somewhere that I know will always hold a special place in their heart. We spent the late afternoon smiling at Philip being goofy, at Kim saying that they should get married ("You know... maybe sometime in mid-May"), and then laughing so hard as they each egged the other on to be even more cute than they already are together. Combine that with the picture perfect weather and I think they'd like to copy it all and have it just like that on the big day. And, somehow, I know it will be perfect and filled with smiles and laughter. I can't wait!

Kim & Philip, thank you so much for choosing me to capture this special time in your life together! I have had a blast getting to know you both and I can't wait for May! xoxo

All of Kim & Philip's photos are posted in their gallery, but you’ll need the password from the lovebirds in order to see them and order printed goodies. In the meantime, here is a sneak peek from their engagement session. To see more, be sure to head over to my Facebook page and hit the “Like” button!

Megan & Ian :: Engaged!

Megan & Ian met each other through friends and found a common interest in England. For Megan, Ian served as the go to man for her previously planned trip to England shortly after she met Ian. For Ian, England is home. (Yes, British accent and all.) So it must have been fate that these two found each other. And, now, a couple years later, fate has brought them to planning their oceanside wedding in Phippsburg, Maine at Megan's family camp. According to Ian, the camp is just an "awful" perk of being with his beloved bride. The gorgeous location right on the ocean is just downright "Maine". In one word: perfect!

Like many of my amazing couples, Megan & Ian found me thanks to another couple's wedding I photographed (thanks, Jen & Jared!) and it took a phone call for Megan to snatch me up for their August wedding before anyone else had the chance. Before the big day arrives, we got together at the site of their upcoming nuptials to explore and, more importantly, capture some photographs of the two (and their two furry babies). The weather was absolutely gorgeous with a cool breeze coming off the water. (Dear Mother Nature, please replicate said conditions next August. Thank you!) Megan couldn't stop smiling the whole time. And Ian just couldn't take his eyes off of her (awww!). They told me of how they met, of how Ian's advice for places to visit in the UK were quickly derailed by a stop in Oxford (yay pubs!), and we chatted about babies (Megan works with young family and, well, I have Bri!). We laughed together, walked through stinky seaweed, and got slobbered on by puppies. To say that next August can't come soon enough is an understatement. I can't wait to spend the day with them again!

Happy First Anniversary, Brittany & Dan!

Oh, Brit & Dan.... I love you two so much! These two love birds tied the knot a year ago at the Great Island Common in New Castle, New Hampshire, on what just might have been the most perfect day for an ocean side summer wedding. And to say that Brittany is one of my craftiest brides ever just might an understatement considering how amazing all of the details were on their big day. Happy First Anniversary, Brittany & Dan! I hope that you did something amazing to celebrate. I'm looking forward to hitting the trails with you guys this summer.

And, because I can't help but share them again, here is a flashback to their "Trash the Dress" session we did in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Footbridge Beach in Ogunquit, Maine. It was another spectacular day and a blast to capture their love again after the big day.

Lauren & Patrick :: Wedding on the Maine Coast at The Harpswell Inn

Lauren and Patrick. And Eloise. Love, love, love these three incredible people! Two doctors and their gorgeous, adorable baby girl. Tying the knot at The Harpswell Inn on the coast on Maine on a rainy June 11, 2011. Rain might spell trouble to most couples, but Lauren and Patrick took it in stride and the day was absolutely glorious and perfect. From the starfish escort cards to Lauren's incredible Jim Hjelm dress to the picture perfect coast line to the rocking party with music from Jones'n. It was an amazing day and certainly one that I wish we could relive over and over again.
